For as long as I can recall, Mike has hosted an enormous Christmas party. It started small enough when he bought his home in Trenton, inviting everyone he knew. Don and I enjoyed catching up with friends from college, and friends we made over the years his home.
Then he moved to Allentown. The annual party turned into a festival of trees. Party guests would walk throughout the house and count the trees. There were rules -- only trees brought out for Christmas were included (i.e., not the palm tree in the kitchen), items decorated with Christmas trees (including salt and pepper shakers) counted. If something (say a tablecloth) has multiple trees on it, it only counts as one. And so on. Mostly kids went around the house with paper and pencil counting trees while their parents had a chance to catch up. Okay, many adults also took place in the counting.
This year, as with many traditions, this had to change. There was no way to safely gather inside their home (as large as it is). Instead Mike built a Christmas Spectacular outside. He transformed their horseshoe driveway into a drive thru light show. Seeing as we had just come from Six Flags, we can honestly say Mike's was better.
Merry Christmas.
