Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

Christmas Eve worship looked a bit different this year. With the pandemic in its 10th month, we knew traditional in the sanctuary worship was out of the question. Then the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville came up with an out of the box solution -- worship in our cars.

The church bought a gadget that gave them the ability to transmit to an empty FM station (they chose 97.7). Even though the parking lot is not huge and a bull horn would work, it felt safer to sit in our cars and listen on the radio. About 20 cars gathered, approximately 50 people (three of us, some came alone, some couples).

We sang "O Come All Ye Faithful" (in our cars) and listened to Luke's rendition of the Christmas Story (Luke 2:1-20). Then we were invited to form a giant circle (if we felt comfortable) and sing "Silent Night" (while wearing masks). Due to the winds, the church loaned us electric candles. Katie downloaded a candle app. Others held their cell phone flashlights in the air.

We chatted for a few minutes and went home. It was nice to see people, even behind masks and in the dark. Oh, it helped it was 60 degrees out and the rain miraculously held out until after the service.

I keep saying this ... we will gather together again, and we will appreciate it.
