Vancouver: Dinner Surprise

Conveniently located on the ground floor of our hotel was a local chain by the name of Burgoo. Inside Burgoo on the shelf behind the table where we sat the second night was a collection of cookie jars. I was tired, and a little punch happy. I don't know what possessed me, but I decided to open one of the jars to see what was inside.

If you had asked me what I expected to find, I would have guessed nothing. Or dust motes, dead bugs, etc. Instead I found a note. It was late. They were starting to shut down for the night. So when I mentioned this to our server I was surprised when she said most of them contain notes. I felt encouraged to open all of them. And take pictures of the notes, of course, while Don watched me.

It started with the one from a patron who noticed a cookie jar like the one her grandmother had when she was still alive. It simply says, "Miss you everyday." Others notes were added. She said the staff does check to make sure the notes are appropriate. Even the one about farts made me happy and more relaxed than I have felt in ages.

Some notes were encouraging.

Some were strange.

The one about her grandmother made me wistful.

One said, "put me in another jar," so I found an empty one and did just that.

Close up of the one above

You never know what you might find if you simply take a moment to look. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but in this case curiosity made me happy and even woke me up a bit.
