Ashley had class, so Don and I took the train to Siena to explore this Medieval town on our own. Due to lack of planning on my part, we did not have tickets to go inside their Duomo (Cathedral) or their theater, so we were left with many hours to wander through the walled city looking around.
We stumbled upon an art exhibit of Emanuele Giannelli's Visionari sculptures being installed throughout the historic part of the city. The official start date was still two days away. As I type this, Ashley planned to visit Siena today, specifically to see this exhibit.
The juxtaposition between the centuries-old architecture and the modern day sculptures made the exhibit that much more interesting. The Gianelli is one of the most famous Italian artists. For a country known for its art, that is quite a statement. He is making a statement about how we should have a different and unconventional look at the ordinary.
