Night Forms at Grounds for Sculpture

In an effort to bring in new visitors, Grounds for Sculpture transformed their site into a reason to visit at night called Night Forms: dreamloop by Klip Collective

In its most concise form, Night Forms is a light and sound show. Music plays and lights dance on the different sculptures. It truly transforms the park into a new experience. I spoke with someone who said based on the number of guests who came at night and transferred their tickets into memberships, the program was more popular than expected. They extended the program until it got to the point they would have to start at 8 pm in order to see it in the dark. Still the comments I saw on social media were from people who wished they would do it in the summer when the weather is warmer. I think they don't realize then it wouldn't start until 9 pm!

Guests were led on a path through the park. We asked a docent if the artists had to give permission to have their artwork altered with lights, and they said yes because they were changing how the artwork was viewed. Thankfully many did.

Visiting Grounds for Sculpture for this program had been on our wish list for a while, but either the schedule or the weather didn't cooperate. By the time we went, it was almost the last weekend and sunset was around 7 pm, when each evening's program began. We did the loop in an hour during dusk, then repeated it in darkness.

The still images don't do it justice. I probably should have taken some videos.

For example, this piece turned the different stones into piano keys in time to the music, then had rainbows coming out of the mouths of the statues at the top. The transformation was mesmerizing.

A favorite that was not part of the exhibit, but one we always enjoy seeing.

Pieces like this one almost seemed to move as the lights changed.

The Red Birch Allee's lights kept changing making as the music played. It was a neat trick.

See how it transforms in the dark! Looked like a different piece of artowkr.

Tonight I received an email saying Grounds for Sculpture plans to bring this back later this year.  I wonder what changes will be made. Guess I'll have to visit to find out.
