Karen and Sam suggested a photo stroll through Historic Yates Mill County Park while we were visiting them in North Carolina. Though the temperatures had already turned in New Jersey, they were still summerlike the first week of October. It is a place you know will be absolutely stunning once the leaves turn from green to red, orange, and yellow. I trust Sam will return with his camera.
Of the 70 mills that used to be in the area 200 years ago, the Historic Yates Mill County Park is the last one standing. The inside has been lovingly restored. You could eat the grains off the floorboards. Unfortunately when we arrived they were closing down for the day. Having recently toured the Newlin Grist Mill, I was interested in how this one differed. It certainly seems like a much bigger operation as they ground both wheat and corn.
The outing was meant as a chance to take pictures. To play with different settings, the lighting, the angle and come up with better pictures. As I don't take the time to do this very often (I mostly rely on the IA setting, which I know is not using my camera to the best of its (or my) abilities), it was a real treat to slow down and enjoy a place.
Here are some of my pictures from our photoshoot:
