When Ashley was growing up we ate dinner together as a family almost every single night. The tradition continued when we had an exchange student. Some nights we had to shift based on school activities, but we managed to eat together much more often than not.
I had no idea how hard it would be to gather three adults together to share a meal until Ashley returned home from college and started working in theater, and Don started working in retail. This month I implemented once a week we would have family breakfast together. I schedule the day a week out. Don makes breakfast. I bring out the Desert Rose china and we carve out time as a family.
Someday she won't be living at home and it will become even more challenging, but until then we keep trying to find time to be together.
