Paris Bistro Life talk

Our wonderful library offered a free trip to Paris to visit bistros.

Well, that's an exaggeration. They invited former Ewing resident, and award-winning travel specialist Gary Lee Kraut to tell us about Paris bistros.

These are my notes so I can find the bistros on my next Parisian adventure.

What is a bistro?

It is a concept of a place, but hard to define. They all have the presence of the owner who knows the regulars. Or it could be the head waiter.

Au Bon Coin: 49 rue des Cloys, 18e arr.

Au Bougnat: 26 rue Chanoisses, 4e arr. (near Notre Dame Cathedral)

Le Verre a Pied: 118 rue Maffetard, 5e arr. After meal go to the bar for coffee.

Chez Walczak: 75 rue Brandon, 15e arr. Sportif reunion

Aux P'tit Zinc: 2 rue des Plaites, 14e arr.

Le Guersant: 30 bd Gouvrion-Saint Cyr, 17e arr.

Restaurants using bistro in their ads, but they are not bistros because they close midday. Bistro is more the local hangout. The people inside change based on time of day from young moms to retirees. You can talk to each other in a bistro (but not in a French restaurant).

Aux Bons Crus, 11e

Les Marches, 16e

Le Paris 16, 16e

Aux Lyonnais, 2e

Aux Crus de Bois Gogne

Auberge Brassane

Le Mesturet: 77 rue de Richelieu, 2e

Chez Leon: near St. Lazare

P'tit Boughnote

When you arrive, order a glass of white wine and strike up a conversation about wine.
