Day 7: Amsterdam: more pictures, few stories

After having a giant bowl of soup and bread for lunch at a café, we waited in line at the famous cat boat. When Ashley visited Amsterdam during her semester in Italy I was under the impression this was a highlight. Missing my girl, and our cats, we waited our turn. Only six people are allowed in for 15 minutes. You can count your place to see how long before it is your time. The boat is only open for two hours.

At lunch we had a very friendly kitty keep us company.

The boat is an animal shelter. Their intention is to spread the word so their cats are adopted. Some of the cats are in cages (mostly because they are afraid), others are allowed outside on a caged balcony (don't bother them). That leaves only a couple of cats to enjoy. The volunteer on board is from Virginia. I had a lively discussion with her about the challenges of becoming a Dutch citizen. There are five tests she still has to pass, ranging from reading, writing, speaking, history, and culture. Don't quote me as I was not taking notes. The point is, she has been working on this for six years ever since she visited Amsterdam while working on her genealogy. Having a Dutch grandfather is not enough to smooth the path to citizenship.

We walked around Amsterdam. A lot. I also took a lot of pictures. Here are some of my favorites, including that of someone transporting their Christmas tree on their bicycle.
