Montpelier After Dark

After a day of archaeology at Montpelier, Martha and I had the evenings to ourselves. We went back to the hotel, cleaned up, and went out to dinner. This schedule ended just in time to witness the sunset around 7 pm.

We woke each morning to another beautiful day in Central Virginia. We truly, truly truly lucked out with the weather. Mornings were cool enough for a hoodie or a flannel shirt. Afternoons, we could easily shed a layer. The evenings concluded with an another amazing sunset. Each one seemed more spectacular than the one before.

Here are some pictures of the show nature put on for us:

Most nights I was also treated to a visit from a freight train, making me feel as if Dad was with me on the trip.

Two of the nights we found ice cream. One was called Mexican ice cream called Sweet Cone in Ruckersville, a town about 25-minutes away. The other was in town, Two Scoops Sweets and Treats, in a shop Google Maps insisted was open seven days a week, but in reality it had just switched to winter hours (4pm-8pm Thursday through Sunday), and they forgot to put a sign out front. We asked locals who thought the place was closed for good. Neither has a dedicated website.
