My note taking was sparse during this period of rest. I wrote a page and a half of thoughts on my first day, and some days I wrote not at all. These posts will be mostly told through photos and research.
As I woke up on Thursday morning after a fitful night's sleep, I Googled "what to do in Liege." I was surprised to find a list of 15 things to do.
1) Grand Curtius/Curtius Museum
Architecture and art museum in a restored mansion. Free next Sunday with reservation (quickly made that reservation). Includes Arms Museum -- second largest in Europe with 11,000 objects (spoiler alert: mostly guns).
2) Montagne de Bueren
Continue climbing to the War Memorial at the Top.
3) Guillemins train station
Yes, it is stunning, but listing the train station still feels like a stretch.
4) Musee des Beaux-Arts de Liege -- La Boverie
While I did see the outside, I did not go inside. It was where the race ended.
5) Archeoforum de Liege at Place St-Lambert
An archaeology museum? Sign me up!
6) St. Paul Cathedral
7) The Walloons-- Musee de la Vie Wallonne
I went here first, even though it was also free on the first Sunday of the month.
8) Church of St. Bartholomew
The baptismal font is from the 12th century and was in the original cathedral. Though I walked past here numerous times, I did not go inside.
9) Musee d'art Religiuex and d'Art Musen
On the third floor of #7 -- feels like another stretch of a list.
10) Nighttime stroll to City Hall (Hotel de Ville).
Around the corner from where I was staying.
11) Tresor de Liege
The Cathedral's treasures. Newly renovated.
12) Arms Museum of the Curtius Museum
As in, located in #1. Another stretch on the list.
13) Former Palace of le Prince-Eveque (bishop prince). Currently a courthouse.
My walking tour started here, but we did not go inside.
14) Outremeuse
Island between the two rivers.
15) Enter a mansion
Oops, this one is closed.
I found another list that also included a mansion and the transportation museum.
